Finance department is one of very important section in the Council which looks after the general finance matters, rates, business licence, revenue and expenditure. Rates collection is the major Revenue earner for the Sigatoka Town Council. Council is heavily dependent on the rates, and other source of revenue to cater and provide the effective service to our ratepayers, business house and general public.
Sigatoka Town Council has the following rates:
- – General Rates
- – Local Rates
- – Special Loan Rates
The following options are available to pay your rates:
- – Direct payment at the STC Cashier.
- – Direct deposit/ online transfer. ( Bank : BSP Account #4180668- Sigatoka Branch).
- – M- Paisa
- – Payment via installments upon approval from Management (Arrangement).
What Happens If I Do Not Pay My Rates
Under Cap 125 of the Local Government Act – The Council has the right seek further actions to recover rates from defaulters who ignore , evade and disregard council notices and reminders. Such measures includes : –
Direct deduction from salary/wages from employers.
Issuance of Attornment/ Tenancy notice to Tenants.
Instituting Legal action on defaulters via Small Claims Tribunal.
Placing Caveat on properties via the Magistrates Court.
Issuing of Committal Warrant to defaulters via the Magistrates Court.
Filing bankruptcy via Magistrates Court
Processing of Business License Applications (New and Renewal)
The application must be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer stating the nature of your request. Business license applications go through business license officer and health inspections as well to ensure compliance of the following:
- – The premises is conducive to the nature of business being applied for
- – Good lighting system & adequate/ suitable mode of ventilation for eating outlets.
- – Provision of proper garbage bins as per regulations
- – Provision of adequate sanitary facilities
- – Intended place of business must be clean for both eating outlets and mobile or temporary small scale catering.
