ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT

 

The Administration Department is responsible for overseeing overall operations in accordance with the Policies and Procedures adopted by the Municipal Council and which is governed by the Local Government Act,   Cap. 125.   The Department is also responsible for fulfilling the statutory corporate administration responsibilities and duties required by the ratepayers and its citizens.

Principles for Municipal Administration

 

The core functions for the municipal administration are:

– be responsive to the needs of the ratepayers and citizens alike;
– facilitate a culture of public service amongst staffs;
– be performance oriented and be focused on the objects and developmental duties of local government set out in the Local Government Act, Cap. 125.

ensure that its structures, managers and staffs relate their roles and responsibilities to the priorities and objectives set out in the municipality’s integrated development plan;
– establish clear relationships and facilitate co-operation, co-ordination and communication between the all the stakeholders;
– be flexible in order to respond to changing priorities and circumstances;
– organize the functions of the administration into operationally effective and appropriate administrative units and mechanisms, and assign clear responsibilities for the management and co-ordination of these administrative nits and mechanisms;
– provide an equitable, fair, open and non-discriminatory working environment;
– maximize efficiency of communication and decision making within the administration;
– delegate responsibility to the most effective level within the administration;
– involve staff in management decisions as far as is practicable; and
– hold the Chief Executive Office accountable for the overall performance of the administration.

 

The Personnel function also forms a substantial part of the responsibilities of this Department. These responsibilities include staff recruitment at all levels, development and management of the corporate training and employee development programs, managing all labour relation functions.

 

The Information Services Department coordinates and follows through on the short and long term strategic planning and acquisition of corporate computer equipment, services, and telecommunications equipment and services. This ensures the effective operation of the municipality and its interaction with the ratepayers and citizens.

 

 

Functions of Administration

 

Key functions of Administration is Good Governance which is very much dependent on the effectiveness and efficiency of the staffs. The organizational structures and administrative systems are simple and easy to run with well skilled and motivated staffs who work as a team.   All our services and its activities are carried out as per the Annual Corporate Plan evaluated on an ongoing basis. In the year 2010  Council has won the Business Excellence Commitment Award and in 2011 it scooped the Business Excellence Award organized by the Fiji National University.   Sigatoka Town Council also received the award for “Clean-Green Town – 2011”. All the above achievements were the fruit of team work of the entire staffs of which we all are proud of.

 

Sigatoka Town Council is practicing Sound Governance effectively since its networking well with the ratepayers and consumers for the goods and services its delivers.  The Council is also practicing accountability,  transparency and efficiency whilst delivering quality services under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer.

 

The Council believes in integrated approach with the stakeholders for building a partnership with the community,  non-government organizations,  provincial administration,  national government and the donor community/agencies.

 

The Administration Section is headed by the Chief Executive Officer, assisted by Executive Assistant, Administrative Assistant,  IT  Officer  and Office Assistant.   The team ensures that the Policies & Procedures and functioning of the Council are strictly adhered to and its Vision, Mission and Goals are achieved. The Administration Department of the Sigatoka Town Council is fully equipped to provide the needed services to the Ratepayers and all the Stakeholders & our community. Pride in our township is growing stronger everyday.  Local groups,  organizations and stakeholders are uniting to make Sigatoka Clean and beautiful.   By working to rid our Sigatoka area of litter and enhance our communities,  we’re sending a message to everyone who visits for business or pleasure.
